Windows Installer係在 Windows 二千零點提出，來做微軟作業系統當中个安裝程式開發標準个作業系統服務。佢做得支援安裝程式需要个當多功能，還過做得支援交易式安裝（Committable Installation）， 毋過係講安裝程式發現毋著抑係問題个時節，做得將安裝程式當中所做个任何修改（包含複製檔案、修改組態這兜）做下會查著未來个情況。

目前嗬 Windows Installer 最新个版本係五千七百空版。

組成

目前主要有兩種 Windows Installer , 分別係 . msi 摎 . msp。. msi 全稱爲MicrosoftInstaller , 還過 . msp 个全稱係爲MicrosoftPackage。 Windows Installer 个安裝程式由 Windows Installer Service、Installer Database、InstallationBootstrapper 還過需要安裝个檔案所組成。

• Windows Installer Service：同作業个系統共下鬥起來，由 Windows Installer 安裝程式个 Installation Bootstrapper 啟動，負責載入 Installer Database，還有 Windows Installer 安裝程式執行期間个交易式安裝功能，來確保安裝程式對系統个修改，毋係成功就係失敗（毋做任何變更）。
• Installer Database：由安裝程式工具來製作，裡背還有安裝程式个指令， 流程（精靈畫面所需要个資料）， 資料，組態設定等等，為 Windows Installer 个安裝資料來源，有成時檔案也會受著壓縮在 Installer Database 中。
• Installation Bootstrapper：啟動 Windows Installer 以執行安裝程式个起勢用程式，一般來講 setup . exe 號名。

做得轉散布元件

利用 Windows Installer 開發安裝程式个軟體廠商，做得在軟體包裝當中 Windows Installer 个做得轉散布套件（Redistribute Package）， 確保使用者个電腦做得更新 Windows Installer 个模組版本，分安裝程式做得順利執行。

Windows Installer 目前係屬於 Platform SDK 个一部份。
